HUMAN Protocol powers automated hackathon product by Ekolance

2 min read

Ekolance has announced the launch of the first ever on-chain hackathon platform built using HUMAN Protocol. The platform, techFiesta, allows fast, automatic payments for developers, while offering them access to a world of new opportunities to up-skill, receive grants, get work, collaborate, and gain a reputation in the industry.

About Ekolance

EkoLance, a HUMAN Protocol grantee, helps companies with training and recruitment of Web3 professionals. Prior to the grant, the company seeking professionals would have to manually launch jobs, assess the work, and report results to EkoLance. Through HUMAN Protocol, the process is being automated.

Hackathons

Hackathons are an essential part of the technology sector, and even more important for Web3, which has a strong open-source foundation.

There are several problems with the current hackathon model.

  • Payment delays
  • Insufficient support
  • Limited resources
  • New companies not always easy to find

Together, these problems take the enthusiasm out of partaking in hackathons. They make the entire experience less enjoyable, productive, and rewarding than it can be.

How it works

The simple core functionality of HUMAN Protocol is to enable someone to launch work to be completed online, and to bring together the parties that can evaluate that work, and initiate payout on-chain.

Requesters – in this case the hackathon sponsor – fill a smart bounty with stablecoins. The HUMAN Protocol ‘Job’ is the hackathon, which would be decomposed into separate tasks, and sent to whitelisted Workers – developers, in this case. The Requester would check the work and, once it has been evaluated, payment will be processed on-chain to the developers.

techFiesta will also leverage HUMAN Protocol’s reputation system, meaning that payment will vary depending on reputation. HUMAN Protocol’s reputation system is a key feature of the network, incentivizing good behavior, and excellence, whilst rewarding consistency.

About techFiesta

While offering technical solutions to the process – such as using HUMAN Protocol’s payment solution – techFiesta also offers developers access to new opportunities.

Some advantages of participating in techFiesta hackathons:

  1. Fast and secure payment in stablecoins via HUMAN Protocol’s escrow system. This means that, once the work is assessed as complete, the payment is triggered. No disputes or delays.
  2. Beyond stablecoin rewards, on-chain certificates (NFTs) can help developers to build a reputation.
  3. Connecting developers with businesses that need their skills, some of the most innovative and active tech companies in the industry.
  4. Participating developers will automatically become part of the EkoLance community, which will offer them access to upskilling opportunities with educational workshops, seminars, and events.
  5. Access to hackathon sponsors – entrepreneurial developers looking to build DApps can receive grants from the companies they are hacking for.
  6. Platform allows developers to interact with other developers in real time, to ask questions, and collaborate.

Web3 is created by developers, and hackathons are how a lot of work gets done. By solving some of the pain problems of hackathons, techFiesta can help to move the entire industry forward in accordance with the principles of decentralization. The simple principles of fast, honest and transparent payment, along with a collaborative approach, can help to bring developers closer to more work, and businesses access to the developers they need, all in a transparent way.
