Newconomics 2023 - Meet our Speakers: Carlos Prada

2 min read

Have you booked your place at Newconomics in November? If you have, you’re in for a treat as we have a selection of amazing speakers who are working at the forefront of web3 technologies all sharing their expertise. One such guest is Carlos Prada, founder of Masterbox  and innovator behind the concept of synthetic communities for growth hacking. Masterbox operates as an accelerator employing unique strategies for all sorts of business. He very kindly shared his thoughts on the need for real-world solutions.

Beyond DAOs: Carlos Prada on Real-World Solutions in Web3

“For me, Web3 represents a fundamental reengineering of online interactions. It's a shift from centralised data silos to a decentralised protocol, rooted in transparent, immutable processes. This technological shift isn't just about decentralisation; it's about crafting a new internet protocol that supports trustless, verifiable transactions and contracts, automated through programmable code primarily on the Ethereum blockchain.

I'm fixated on the financial revolution potential with Web3, especially in high-inflation countries. Here, we can bypass unstable fiat systems, offering secure, immutable, and stable financial alternatives. It's less about the NFTs and games and more about concrete financial empowerment and security through technological innovation.

The primary barriers to Web3 adoption include overcomplicated crypto products and a proliferation of protocols that solve non-existent problems, creating confusion and adoption resistance. Additionally, technical challenges like scalability, energy consumption, and a need for regulatory clarity stand in the way of mass adoption.

When it comes to work, crypto and blockchain stand as beacons for equal opportunity in the workforce, unhindered by geography or traditional gatekeepers. Immutable record-keeping on-chain can revolutionise work and compensation, ensuring transparent, verifiable, and fair work opportunities globally.

The future of work doesn't excite me because of popular trends like DAOs. Instead, my enthusiasm is for practical solutions addressing real-world needs. Innovations like StarkWare and Optimism, with their layer-2 solutions, are thrilling because they tackle actual problems of scalability and high fees, making blockchain more practical and usable for everyday applications. They address key issues of scalability and bring solutions like gas and account abstraction into the mainstream conversation, enhancing user experience without sacrificing the core tenets of decentralisation and security.”

Find out more about the new economics of Web3 and how it can change the way we work together at the Newconomics event in Lisbon. Full details and registration can be found on the website.
