Newconomics 2023 - Meet our Speakers: Rachel Cheung

2 min read

Join us at Newconomics where some of the world’s finest minds in web3 will be gathering to talk about future economics, work and much more. We have a lively startup competition, intriguing keynotes and thoughtful discussion panels all set along with plenty of room for networking. One of our amazing speakers is Rachel Cheung, global PR manager at Bitget who kindly shared her thoughts on web3 with us.

Exploring Blockchain's Efficiency and Traceability with Rachel Cheung

“Having been a BTC investor since 2017, I've always regarded blockchain technology as a profound game-changer. What captivates me most are the technology's potential applications, its remarkable efficiency and traceability, its capacity to ensure equitable benefit distribution, and its ability to facilitate borderless value transfers. I could delve into this topic endlessly!

One intriguing opportunity I currently perceive revolves around the integration of AI with blockchain technology. I firmly believe that the convergence of these two significant trends holds limitless potential.

Blockchain technology's ability to more efficiently log and trace our digital footprints holds the promise of significantly reducing the time spent on information retrieval and storage. I anticipate that this technological shift will enable humans to redirect their energies elsewhere in the near future. Some of us may undergo reskilling to explore the full potential of our cognitive functions.

At present, the obstacles to widespread Web3 adoption revolve around security concerns, a gap in technical knowledge, and a lack of protective measures. As industry builders, we are actively working to address these challenges and foster mass adoption. But, I'm particularly enthusiastic about the prospect of further unravelling the mysteries of our brains and their capabilities. Cognitive functions have been relatively underexplored due to historical emphasis on manual labour. I'm eager to discover what more we can achieve with our mental faculties.

Having worked at two prominent crypto exchanges, I've had the opportunity to witness thousands of projects and token launches. While Bitcoin (BTC) remains my steadfast favourite as the closest form to a decentralised network in my opinion, I'm also keenly interested in the ongoing developments of Ethereum (ETH) and Render Network (RNDR).”

Find out more about the new economics of Web3 and how it can change the way we work together at the Newconomics event in Lisbon. Full details and registration can be found on the website.
