Newconomics 2023 - Meet our Speakers: Scott Green

2 min read

Join us in Lisbon this November for Newconomics and find out all about why Web3 means business and not just crypto or NFTs. Joining us at the event is Lounges.tv CEO Scott Green who kindly shared his views on Web3 as a taster.

Breaking Down Web3 Adoption Barriers: Lessons from Lounges.tv's CEO

“Web3 transitions us all from a model of centralised control over data and platform decision making to a decentralised framework which can be much more empowering for users. I think that Web3 seeks to help create a more transparent, user-focused internet that minimises the roles of intermediaries and gatekeepers like the prominent online search tools, widely used social media networks, big e-commerce platforms and overarching digital services.

There are so many opportunities, but fundamentally Web3 tech presents ways to transform all sorts of industries by offering everyone more control and fostering innovation.  But there are still barriers to adoption like its complexity which can make it hard to grasp. The growing pains it is seeing as an emerging set of technologies, lack of clear legislation which makes it tough for new users to understand the rules, worries about safety and old habits. It’s never easy to think of something as big as a network in an entirely new way, so the old ways tend to be more appealing. For Web3 to really fly, we need to address these challenges and make it much easier for everyone to get involved.

While those issues stand, I can see a future where there will be many advantages, especially relating to work. Imagine job platforms without middlemen so jobseekers and employers can link up directly, CV trust, where your documents and qualifications are verified on the blockchain, timely payments - something all freelancers will love. Cheap global payments for international workers, online worker communities to ensure fair treatment, transparent work agreements and the ability to safeguard creative work and prevent unauthorised use. That’s just for starters but you can see how it might totally change the way we all work.

This all makes the future of work really exciting, it takes power from big companies and hands it to individuals, allows creatives to directly benefit from their work, and overall makes working more fair, transparent and collaborative.”

Find out more about the new economics of Web3 and how it can change the way we work together at the Newconomics event in Lisbon. Full details and registration can be found on the website.
