Proof of HUMANity: HUMAN and MetaMask integration

2 min read

For all the differences between regular applications and DApps, they suffer from the same nuisance: bots. While developers have created ways to limit bot activity, there has been nothing in the blockchain and crypto worlds to prevent DApps from being overrun by malicious bots. For the first time in this industry, there is now a solution.

We have created a HUMAN Protocol API within the MetaMask wallet. Ethereum is the most used blockchain for DApps; MetaMask is the most popular wallet within that chain. That’s why we’ve teamed up with this specific wallet and, while this is just the beginning, we are excited by the number of DApp developers this will help.

For a more technical rundown, read our article about the collaboration.

Why have we done this?

The immediate application and high-level utility is to block bots. There are a huge number of bots running through the Ethereum network. This collaboration allows developers to ensure those using the application are real humans, not bots.

For developers, this is essential to gather real and meaningful data on the usage of their application. Until now, there was no way of doing this.

However, this work signals a broader development in the industry. Proof of HUMANity has the capacity to ensure that all blockchain transactions are made by humans; for people on one side of a transaction to know that a human is on the other. This idea was less problematic in the more traditional industries, where a centralized authority operated as a safety check. In a peer-to-peer blockchain world, having a way to verify the humanity of users, to create trust, reliability, and authenticity, is an essential part of the next phase of growth.

HUMAN Protocol

Like many of our applications, an initial use simply shows the edge of the broader possibilities. Proof of HUMANity can be applied to almost any area of the industry, and make blockchain a safer, fairer industry for all those who wish to benefit from it.

This is the first implementation of a HUMAN wallet functionality, but far from the last. We hope that we will be able to bring more Proof of HUMANity work to other chains, to protect more DApps from bots.

The HUMAN Wallet

Meanwhile, work begins on creating a HUMAN wallet for use on all HUMAN applications. We intend to create a wallet with the following capabilities: single sign-ons for HUMAN powered apps, atomic swaps to allow transferral of assets between chains, and Validator staking by those who hold HMT.
